In recent times, relations between Türkiye and Iraq have gained significant momentum, and as a result of the mutual visits made by our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and the Prime Minister of Iraq, Mr. Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani, a total of 28 bilateral agreements have been signed. Following these agreements, various efforts are being carried out to increase cooperation between the two countries in the political, economic, communal, and social spheres.
Within this framework, Mr. Ammar Ali Abdulmunim, Head of the Iraqi Prime Ministry Communications Commission, and his accompanying delegation—hosted in Ankara from December 15 to 21, 2024, under the auspices of our Migration and Diaspora Foundation—held meetings with the Maarif Foundation, the Yunus Emre Institute, the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB), the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), the Ministry of Family and Social Services, the Directorate of Communications, the İHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, and Mr. Abdulkadir Emin Önen, President of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly.
As a continuation of these meetings, upon the invitation of the Iraqi Prime Ministry Communications Commission, a delegation headed by our Foundation's Chairman of the Board, Mr. Recep Seyyar, organized a visit to Iraq from February 15 to 22, 2025. Within this scope, contacts were made with various Iraqi state officials and civil society representatives.
Growing Cooperation Between Türkiye and Iraq
The Iraqi delegation that came to Türkiye stated that the Prime Ministry Communications Commission works in coordination with all the ministries in the country and, in particular, serves as a bridge in state-citizen relations. The delegation held talks aimed at accelerating bureaucratic processes in order to enhance the practical applicability of the agreements signed with Türkiye, and steps were taken to resolve eight matters on the instruction of Prime Minister al-Sudani.
During our visit to Iraq, our delegation met with the Iraqi Ministry of Migration and Displaced Persons, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education, the Human Rights Commission of the Iraqi Parliament, the Iraqi Turkmen Front, the Iraqi Scholars Council, Mansoura University, the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Baghdad, and religious leaders, holding consultations on joint projects.
We extend our thanks to those who hosted us on behalf of the Iraqi Prime Ministry, foremost among them Chief Communications Advisor to the Prime Ministry Mr. Ammar Ali, as well as Chief Security Advisor to the Prime Ministry Dr. Hussein Allawi, the Prime Ministry's Representative for Nineveh Province Ahmed Jamal, Prime Ministry Office Specialist Jamal Bilal, and Prime Ministry Communications Commission Member Hamza Mohammed.
At the end of the visits, in a meeting held with Türkiye's Ambassador to Baghdad, Mr. Bora Anıl İnan, the impressions gained were shared and various proposals were discussed to strengthen cooperation. We thank him for his kind hospitality.
